About The Artisan Kitchen | Award-Winning Preserves from Gloucestershire
PRESERVING EXCELLENCE
About The Artisan Kitchen
The Artisan Kitchen is an award-winning Gloucestershire preserve kitchen founded by
Chef Sarah Churchill in 2011.
What began with a single plum tree became a chef-led business known for beautifully balanced jams, exceptional marmalades and a thoughtful, precise approach to preserving.
It Began With a Mirabelle Tree
The Artisan Kitchen began with fruit falling from a Mirabelle plum tree in Gloucestershire.
Heavy with golden plums, the tree belonged to someone local. In exchange for the fruit, Sarah offered a few jars of jam. One batch became two, then two became a small kitchen filled with copper pans, steam and possibility.
It was never about building a factory-made food brand. It was about creating flavour worth remembering.
A Chef’s Approach to Preserving
Before founding The Artisan Kitchen, Sarah trained and worked as a professional chef in some of the UK’s leading kitchens, including The Square in Mayfair under Philip Howard.
That background still shapes every jar. Balance matters. Ingredient integrity matters. Timing matters. Preserving, at its best, is a craft of judgement as much as recipe.
Each preserve is made with a chef’s eye for flavour, restraint and precision.
What Defines The Artisan Kitchen
At the heart of the business is a simple belief: preserves should taste vividly of the fruit they are made from, and every jar should feel considered.

Chef-crafted
A preserve kitchen shaped by professional culinary training, flavour judgement and precision.
Fruit-led
Recipes built around the character of the fruit, not masked by unnecessary additions.
Small batch
Made in very small quantities so flavour, texture and set can be judged with care.
Recognised for Flavour
Since first entering Great Taste in 2012, The Artisan Kitchen has earned an extraordinary number of awards for both jams and marmalades.
These awards matter because they are judged blind. More importantly, they reflect the consistency, balance and care behind every jar.
Britain’s most awarded preserves, chef-made in Gloucestershire.
630 Fine Food Accolades . 210 Great Taste Awards . 7 Golden Forks
Rooted in Gloucestershire
The Artisan Kitchen is proudly based in Gloucestershire, and the county’s orchards, ingredients and food traditions have helped shape the collection.
That local connection can be tasted in some of our most distinctive preserves, including The Artisan Kitchen’s Blaisdon Red Plum Jam™, created by Sarah Churchill and commercially produced since 2013 using rare local heritage plums, and Gloucester Marmalade made with Gloucestershire cider.
Some recipes call for exceptional citrus and specialist ingredients sourced further afield, but the spirit of the business remains closely tied to the produce, flavours and landscape of home.
This is a working Gloucester preserve kitchen built on professional craft, remarkable fruit and a genuine sense of place.
Why We Do It
A great preserve can transform an ordinary moment.
A slice of warm toast, a spoonful beside a tart, a jar given as a thoughtful gift. These are small pleasures, but memorable ones.
When you open a jar from The Artisan Kitchen, you are tasting a chef’s approach to preserving. Thoughtful. Balanced. Precise.
