Description

 Blood Orange Negroni Marmalade

A three-star Great Taste Award-winning marmalade combining Sicilian Tarocco blood oranges with Campari, Martini Rosso and British gin for vibrant citrus, herbal bitterness and a long botanical finish.

Quick answer: Tarocco Blood Orange Negroni Marmalade is a cocktail-inspired citrus preserve made with Sicilian Tarocco blood oranges, Campari, Martini Rosso and British gin. It begins with sweet, aromatic blood orange, followed by herbal bitterness, warm vermouth spice and a clean botanical finish.

Our Tarocco Blood Orange Negroni Marmalade brings together the vivid flavour of Sicilian blood oranges and the distinctive bittersweet character of Italy’s classic cocktail.

Tarocco blood oranges provide natural sweetness, bright acidity and a beautifully aromatic citrus foundation. Their complex flavour gives the marmalade enough character to stand alongside the cocktail’s stronger botanical ingredients.

Campari adds confident bitterness, Martini Rosso brings herbal richness and gentle spice, while British gin completes the preserve with a clean botanical finish.

What Are Tarocco Blood Oranges?

Tarocco blood oranges are a celebrated Sicilian citrus variety known for their sweetness, fragrant juice and naturally coloured flesh.

Their flavour is often softer and sweeter than a traditional bitter orange, with enough acidity to remain fresh and vibrant.

That balance makes Tarocco oranges particularly well suited to the Negroni ingredients. Their natural sweetness supports the Campari bitterness, while their citrus fragrance remains clear alongside the vermouth and gin.

The Classic Negroni Flavours

A traditional Negroni brings together bitter aperitif, sweet vermouth and gin. Each ingredient has a distinct role in this marmalade.

Campari brings bitter orange, herbs and a confident aperitif character. Martini Rosso adds sweetness, warm spice and botanical richness.

British gin contributes a clean finish with subtle juniper and botanical notes. Together, they deepen the blood orange without turning the preserve into a cocktail-flavoured novelty.

Why Blood Orange and Negroni Work Together

Blood orange is a natural partner for the Negroni because it shares the cocktail’s balance of sweetness, acidity and citrus bitterness.

The Tarocco fruit provides a bright, juicy opening. Campari then adds bitter-orange depth, followed by the herbal warmth of Martini Rosso and the cleaner botanical finish of gin.

The result is layered and grown-up, but it remains unmistakably a fruit-led marmalade.

How We Make It

We prepare the Tarocco blood oranges carefully, allowing the fruit and peel to retain their bright citrus aroma and natural character.

Campari, Martini Rosso and British gin are added in carefully balanced quantities. Each must be recognisable, but none should overpower the blood orange.

Every batch is handmade using open-pan methods in our Gloucestershire kitchen, creating a glossy marmalade with fine-cut peel and a long, bittersweet finish.

How to Enjoy It

  • Spread on toasted brioche, croissants, sourdough or crumpets
  • Serve with mature Cheddar, Brie, blue cheese or goat’s cheese
  • Use as a glaze for pork, duck, ham or roasted vegetables
  • Pair with dark chocolate cake, brownies or chocolate tart
  • Spoon over vanilla ice cream, panna cotta or cheesecake
  • Shake into a Negroni-style cocktail or gin sour

Chef-crafted, small batch, preserving excellence.

Sarah’s Maker’s Note

Tarocco blood oranges have the sweetness and fragrance needed to balance the stronger Negroni flavours. I want the fruit to arrive first, followed by Campari bitterness, vermouth warmth and a final lift of gin botanicals. It should be complex, but never muddled.

Made for Cheese and Savoury Cooking

The herbal bitterness and spirit warmth make this marmalade particularly good with rich cheese and roasted meats.

  • Serve with mature Cheddar and crisp crackers
  • Pair with creamy Brie or baked Camembert
  • Brush over duck breast or roast pork
  • Mix with mustard for a glaze for ham
  • Stir into pan juices for citrus, herbs and gentle bitterness

Made for Chocolate and Desserts

  • Layer into a dark chocolate sponge cake
  • Swirl through brownie batter before baking
  • Warm gently and spoon over vanilla ice cream
  • Use as a filling for chocolate tartlets
  • Serve with panna cotta, cheesecake or mascarpone

Great Taste Awards Judges’ Comments – Great Taste Gold

“A vibrant and lively appearance with clear, bright, well-set jelly packed full of easy-to-eat pieces of peel. Warm, sweetly fragrant, tangy, almost aromatic notes bring a full, true, rounded orange flavour that is both deeply and satisfyingly sweet yet balanced with a clever contrast of bitter, pithy notes and a gentle, almost herbal softness on the finish to leave the palate feeling perky and alive. Smooth, melting jelly and tender-to-the-bite peel make for a very pleasurable mouthfeel. A delicious marmalade that deserves a star. The notes from the Campari blend beautifully.”

  1. Richmond Customer –

Really really good. Just the right balance of sweet and tangy. So moreish. Had to have it on toast every day. Gorgeous colour with bitter shredding. I can’t go back to the overly sweet stuff from the supermarket.

  2. S –

I bought about 4 different marmalade jars from various companies and this is hands down the best one I have tried. The others are too sweet fir me but this is the perfect blend of bittersweet. Will come back for more!
