Description
Seville Orange Marmalade with Italian Orange Bitters
A bold, bittersweet marmalade combining Seville oranges with Aperol for vivid citrus flavour, aromatic peel and a distinctive Italian aperitivo finish.
Quick answer: Seville Orange Marmalade with Italian Orange Bitters is a handmade marmalade made in Gloucestershire with bitter Seville oranges and Aperol. It has classic orange depth, fine-cut peel and a bright, bittersweet aperitivo finish. It won Double Gold and was named World’s Best Marmalade at the World’s Original Marmalade Awards.
Our Seville Orange Marmalade with Italian Orange Bitters brings together traditional British marmalade-making and the sunny, bittersweet character of an Italian aperitivo.
Seville oranges provide aromatic peel, vivid citrus flavour and the natural bitterness that gives proper marmalade its structure. Aperol adds another layer of orange, herbal warmth and gentle aperitivo complexity.
Every batch is handmade in small quantities in our Gloucestershire kitchen, allowing the fruit, peel and set to be judged carefully throughout cooking.
Choose this marmalade if you enjoy bold Seville bitterness, aromatic orange peel and the grown-up citrus character of an Italian aperitivo.

Sweetness: Rich but balanced by citrus bitterness
Bitterness: Bold, aromatic and grown-up
Texture: Glossy set with fine-cut orange peel
Finish: Warm, citrus-led and gently herbal
Seville Orange Meets Italian Aperitivo
Seville oranges are naturally suited to marmalade. Their fragrant peel, acidity and bitterness create the depth and structure that sweeter eating oranges cannot provide alone.
Aperol complements those qualities rather than hiding them. Its bittersweet orange and herbal notes deepen the citrus character and create a warmer, more rounded finish.
The result is still recognisably a proper Seville marmalade, but with an additional layer of Italian-inspired flavour that makes it especially distinctive.
How We Make It
The Seville oranges are carefully prepared and cooked in small open pans, allowing the peel to soften while retaining its aromatic character and delicate bite.
Aperol is added to bring orange warmth and aperitivo complexity. Because every batch is relatively small, the balance of fruit, peel, bitterness and set can be judged carefully by sight, spoon and experience.
This creates a marmalade with clarity and confidence rather than one in which the alcohol or bitters overwhelm the fruit.
How to Enjoy It
- Spread on buttered toast, sourdough, crumpets or croissants
- Serve with mature Cheddar, blue cheese or washed-rind cheese
- Pair with ricotta, mascarpone or soft goat’s cheese
- Use as a glaze for ham, duck, chicken or roasted carrots
- Stir into cocktails for bittersweet orange flavour
- Use in citrus cakes, dark chocolate desserts or bread and butter pudding
Chef-crafted, small batch, preserving excellence.
Sarah’s Maker’s Note
I created this marmalade around contrast: traditional Seville orange depth and fine peel against the rounded, bittersweet orange character of Aperol. The aperitivo should add warmth and complexity, but the finished jar must still taste first and foremost like a properly made Seville marmalade.

Graeme –
I am gradually working my way through the wide selection of Artisan marmalades and they are all so good I am struggling to identify a favourite. Plainly they are far superior to conventional shop bought products and it is nice to support a small specialist business
Rhian Winslade –
I love all the marmalades from the Artisan kitchen. This one is my particular favourite. A perfect balance between, sweet, sharp and tangy. Absolutely delicious
Jeff Burridge –
A great subtly sharp Seville orange marmalade, a perfect complement to toast.
Nadine Cartner –
Without doubt the best marmalade I have ever tasted. I have bought multiple jars, many times from Artisan Kitchen, every single product has been outstanding. I am now totally spoilt for any other brand.

S Sarin –
Small jar and relatively expensive but,,,,, divine. Slightly more bitter (Aperol hint), tangy and less sweet than than most common brands. I think I have found the perfect marmalade.
margaret shortland –
Oh joy, a new supply of marmalade has arrived. What can be better for breakfast than toast made with home made bread, a thick layer of butter and Artisan Seville Marmalade with Italian Orange Bitters. My day can get no better.
Megan –
I have only tried this variety of marmalade , the blood orange marmalade I bought was as a gift.
Most marmalade is too sweet for me and until experiencing health issues I always made my own. The Seville Marmalade
Italian with Orange Bitters is so delicious just like home made and not too sweet I will be buying it again .
Hazel –
My third delivery from Artisan Kitchen, but the first for this marmalade, but it won’t be my last. The marmalade has a lovely tangy taste of Seville oranges and Aperol which gives it the bitter sweet taste, which I love.
Will be buying again.
Laura E –
I ordered this a few years ago for my mum who is a huge Aperol fan. My mum has never been fussed on marmalade, however, she loves this marmalade SO much and now asks for another jar every Mother’s Day, birthday, and Christmas! I’ve tried it myself and it’s so refreshing and tasty. I would highly recommend to any Aperol or marmalade fan!
Anna Heath –
A really nice quality product
Margaret Hannah –
Very intense taste, slightly bitter. Agree you don’t need a lot of it. Excellent marmalade, as usual from Artisan Kitchen
Paul Edge –

Just as delicious as the Artisan Kitchen Negroni marmalade – and we didn’t think that was possible! Wonderful.
Clare Gordon –
Absolutely love this. I’m not a massive marmalade fan but this is fabulous. Both sweet and bitter. Only problem is my husband loves it too. Will need to buy extra next time.
Anna May –
This marmalade packs an absolute punch whilst still allowing each flavour to sing. It really is astonishingly good.
Jo –
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my dad – I hope he lets me taste as it sounds gorgeous. Well packaged with recyclable and compostable materials. Good communication with personal note and timely delivery (even with RM strikes). Will get my dad to review once he has tasted. I would definitely purchase again and support our independents!
Van R –
The BEST marmalade!
I ordered the marmalade for a treat for my husband – and it certainly is! He absolutely adores it, saying that there is a delicious bitterness underlying the sweetness which is exactly the taste he wanted. Thank you for making my husband so happy!
Janet –
If you enjoy a marmalade with a bright bitter taste, this is the one for you. Excellent value because about half the usual amount needed to achieve a good taste.
